OT Records...On Deckery 2...The review...

I am just gonna jump right into it. The mixtape will be available on http://www.datpiff.com/ Sunday. Locally in Delaware you will be able to pick it up at Wonderland on Main St. in Newark, One Stop, Skip's Book on 4th St. (Wilmington), Cave Man Apparel, Sam's (Newark) and at all the local hot barbershops in town.

The CD itself is a must have. I will not 'ruin' the skits for you by reviewing them nor will I give away a lot of the songs content. I will speak on SOME OF THE TRACKS.

From the beginning of the CD, you can get a chilling view of what is to come. The beat comes on and Shizz gets right to work. (R.I.P. Art) Lets you know who is on board with some shout outs. Props to Matty Gate$ and Bran for the order of this joint by the way. It is perfect. Nothing seems out of place. If flows. Skits are on point and all of that.

The CD starts off with two Rick Rock beats that set the stage of what is to come. 'Pay Me' is a song that is kinda near and dear to me 'cause I had a chance to hear it early. It features the person I am happy people will finally get to hear. Keena. Shizz does the hook and spits fire. Then out of nowhere it seems, Keena comes in and puts the nail in the coffin. Only to have Shizz come right back and pull it back out. The beat is BIG. Big like you would think a 'known' producer did it. Well, if Rick Rock keeps doing beats like the ones he has contributed here, he will be known. I will remember his name for sure.

'I Got It' is next. This is a banger produced by Sap the Beatman. He is next and the song is a winner for sure.

'Oh Let's Do' It is an 'freestyle' by none other than Clark Bar and Chuck50. They DO what was supposed to be done over that Wacka Flocka beat. Spit hot fire over it. You can feel the emotion in their words and they spin a tale or two on how they get down.

'Rapstar' is another freestyle. This time over Gucci Mane's beat and starring Shizz Nitty. If you are from around here, you KNOW EXACTLY who this song is about. There is "Facebook" story behind this joint that I promise I am going to get Shizz himself to retell one day for me on 'record'. I watched it unfold but I want him to tell you in his words. Or you could just listen to the song and pick up the clues. Definite diss record and surely not made up.

'How 'Bout It' is a song that PEEDI CRACK wanted to get on. That is all I am going to say. That should tell you everything you need to know. He ASKED to be on the song. The song is fire. Period. The song was fire BEFORE he got on it actually. 5th Ward & Shizz did their thing. It is flames now.

'Snap' features Clark Bar (As I call him 'The Voice'. Just listen to him rap. You will understand.) on the hook with Shizz spitting.


Clark & Keena are up next to give you a whole new perspective on a Rihanna song I hate honestly. I literally never listened to 'Rude Boy' more than once. I left it be. As a result, I didn't KNOW what song it was they killed. I had to look it up. They completely redid the hook and all of that with great results. "I'm Back"


'Bad Bitch' featuring Shizz, Chuck50 and Keena is just one of those songs that shows you they are into more than just one thing. I think Chuck50 might surprise a few on this track. Keena once again damm steals the show and Shizz does what Shizz does.

'Shake 'Em Off' is a track that I have been ranting and raving about for months. It is a song with production by Jahlil Beats. It is that good to me. Club banger. I could see the 'shakey girls' coming out to this joint right here or people leaving the bar to get their 'steps' in when it comes on.

'Hugs and Kisses from the Girls' by Sap the Beatman is SELF EXPLANATORY. Production AND rapping, Sap puts it down. He has a surprise for you later on though when he gets FREEWAY and Shizz Nitty to join him.

'My Life' by Chuck50 is a CHUCK50 AT HIS BEST. He is an killer. On the track that is. His lyrics will put you RIGHT THERE with him no matter what the subject matter. Same with Clark Bar. They both display this on 'My Life', 'Always Strapped' and 'Exercise'.

Shizz Nitty and P-Dot go in next on "BMF"....

All We Do Is Grind featuring Chuck50 and Shizz Nitty is a where you can see just why 'Chuck50 and Shizz' are down with each other. It shows on this track.

'Yamz' is JUST LIKE IT SOUNDS. Good. And yes it is about 'that'. Shizz and 5th Ward are talking about what they know.


"True Story" shows you exactly how Clark Bar gets down. If you have never heard him independently of the others, you should peep this out.

'Sox In Da Air' (Remix). The original started THINGS OFF for this last push that Shizz Nitty and OT Records got. Getting an official co-sign from the Philly Flamer, Meek Mill (Philly...215) just solidified that. This is not some 'added on' verse either. No need to wonder if he has been around 'OT Records' or was it a one time deal. No. (That's all I can tell you right now. Be patient.) He came through and RECORDED THAT JOINT FOR THE SONG. It also shows you how talented the other artists on the track are as they are not outshining each other. Everyone HOLDS THEIR OWN ON THAT TRACK. Period.

'100' just lets it be known. Period. Keyz has a nice track on his hands and Shizz puts his magic touch on it to finish it off. I'mma start calling Shizz 'Joe Hooker' if he keeps this 'hook' work up.

As you probably have read by now through the previous three posts, I was in Dover, Delaware on Friday. THE MAIN REASON I was in Dover was to cover OT Records signing to E1 Records. Now the young man pictured up top pointing to my camera right there is none other than Matty Gate$. (Standing next to none other than CHARLIE MACK. Yes, THAT CHARLIE MACK. First out the limo...Co-producer of ATL....) He is pretty camera shy (sometimes) but he is the man behind the scenes for OT Records. I may have mentioned it before but at his behest, I have kept a little quiet about him. He was a MAJOR reason today happened today. Not just for the label but for me. So this is my thank you to him. In public.

I am about to test some of ya'lls music knowledge and see if you can identify the man on standing next to him. He is no slouch AT ALL so you SHOULD KNOW HIM. Especially if you are from Philly. I won't scream his name 'cause he just happened to be in the picture and was pretty clear that things were about the artists today. Not him. So we will move RIGHT ALONG and keep talking about OT Records. This was just to show some of you 'doubters' out there that yes, SHIT IS REAL. It is really happening and people aren't making stuff up, hyping it to be something it is not, jumping in photos JUST BECAUSE or any of that other phony 'hype' that people love to generate. It is all real.

To quote Shizz..."Business over sucker shit...". On to the performance....
I have to admit that I missed the introduction of the aforementioned artists so when I came into the 'room', they were already getting down. This is what I walked into.

Shizz going full throttle on the mic. He was on point too. Very relaxed but kept the crowd into it and the girls loved him. Damm Casanova ass...The crowd was doing the call and response thing and you could tell he is hitting his stride with this music thing.

Chuck50 got on the mic and DID HIS THING. Prior to this, I had only seen Chuck perform on tape so I was definitely in critique mode. It is what I do. I have nothing but praise for the young man on the mic. I always look to see if what I am hearing on 'record' transfers to what I see when I watch a person perform. He did not disappoint me at all. I got a chance to ask him when he was coming out and he did the SMART THING. He referred me to Matty Gate$. (Chuckles) Balls in your court Matty!

Having only 'heard' Clark rap but having SEEN HIM act his ass off in the Rennie Rox made "Game of Death", I REALLY WANTED TO SEE HIM RAP. I was told he was a beast. I get that a lot so I like to wait and see. I am glad I got to see it. That same star quality that came leaping out at me on the screen did so on stage. He says he is 'working his way back into stage shape' but what I saw was a hungry MC ready to get things done. He was SO READY WITH IT that he got off stage after the performance and got into this NASTY FILTHY freestyle on the side of the stage. I WANT THAT FOOTAGE. (It is coming, don't worry. I am gonna get that joint.) The animation, the lyrics and the flow came together something lovely on that freestyle. It was one of those 'You stop what you are doing and watch 'cause something special is happening over there...' type of moments. We all just stopped our conversations and watched him do work.

Understand that this performance was NOT ANNOUNCED for had it been, it would have been chaos. Hence the 'room' you see in the room. Special invited guests and a little word of mouth RIGHT BEFORE they were to go on. I would feel remiss if I did not explain why the room looks the way it does. After talking to the members of the crowd and the Del State SGA (They are the ones who 'host' such events at the school), I was able to confirm that this was the case too. So this is not speculation. It is fact.

Carlos 'Los' Stephens...In Dover, Delaware. Interview.

The Warehouse recently got a chance to sit down with multi platinum (40 million and counting) producer and current Koch VICE PRESIDENT OF MUSIC during a presser for Shizz Nitty of OT Records. If you don't know, he is 1/4th of the collective known as Beats By The Pound that made the sonic backdrop for all of those hits from No Limit. As you read here earlier, Koch (E1) has signed OT Records roster and Carlos was in town to catch a surprise performance and presser announcing the signing of OT Records by E1 Entertainment. Graciously, he took some time out to field some questions from your boy. We also chopped it up throughout the afternoon and he spoke on a variety of subjects with genuine interest. I will share some of those here.

TW: First of all, let me say that I am a fan of your music. When you guys (Beats by The Pound)came out, I was still off and on this very campus (Delaware Sate University) and you guys had things poppin' then. It was refreshing to hear another brand of music as things were very North East Coast dominated, obviously 'cause this is where we are at. Only Southern acts getting any real play was Outkast.

CS: Thank you. It took a long time to break down those barriers.

TW: So you are originally from New Orleans correct? Do you still reside in the N.O.?

CS: Yes, that is correct. Born and raised. Actually, I just recently did move back. It is good to be home.

TW: Indeed it is. Tell the good folks out there when you first started doing music officially?

CS: Around '91 or so I opened my first studio. It has been on ever since. I had to play a little catch up with some of the technical aspects which made me work even harder.

TW: One would never know that judging by the finished products! So let me ask you this. How did you first hear about Shizz/OT Records?

CS: Well, I first heard about them through my partner Rich. He sent in a couple of videos with Shizz's performances, including the 'Sox In The Air' video. I was impressed and here we are.

TW: Have you had a chance to see the area where the boys of OT reside from?

CS: This is my first time here in the State actually. However, I could see from the videos the authenticity of their movement and got a sense of where they are from. Truthfully, this is what today is all about. For me to get a chance to see them in their world and to get that 'feel' for them. I am enjoying what I am seeing so far.

TW: How do you see this relationship working with OT. Will you be hands on? Are they a finished product in your eyes, thus allowing you to back off totally? Or will it be a situation that plays itself by ear and both things may happen?

CS: What we do here is we like to take on the undeveloped artists. A lot of producers don't like to take on these types of artists. They love the finish product. We take joy in taking that unfinished product, bring them in the studio with multi-platinum producers and seeing what can happen. It is all about the vibe of the situation. I have already asked for a few tracks from them and we have evaluated them. We will take a hands on approach but make no mistake about it, the talent is there. We are just looking to refine it. They are all very talented.

TW: You took my next question....(Chuckles) I told you I am pretty new at this....

CS: (Chuckles) I am sorry. Next question.


TW: Have you seen Clark Bar, Shizz, and Chuck50 in the movie The Game of Death? I understand that the company has a distribution connection with that sort of thing as well.

CS: We sure have seen the movie and were pleased with everyone's performance. Looking forward to branching out in that area as well. We have a couple of distribution deals and some investors that are willing to finance such projects so that is definitely on the horizon. It would be good to see them featured again on film.


TW: Last question...Even though I believe the name speaks for itself, can you tell the people just SOME of the people you have worked with. For those that don't know your resume'.

CS: (Modest smile) Ginuwine, Fiend, Mia X, Master P, Snoop Dogg and a few others....

The announcement I have been waiting to make..Shizz Nitty signs with a major label.

I have been holding this under my hat for a GOOD minute. It is not the 'end' but a new chapter in the book of OT Records. Shizz has signed a major deal. Details below....Lets just say that once you see who OT will be working with (Koch), all of those 'he is just doing a lil something' whispers and murmurs might just become a little more 'silent'. There is actually more news than just the signing itself. He is slated to appear on Meek Mill's 'Gangsta Grillz' tape with DJ Drama. Yes, THAT DJ DRAMA. You heard right. So things are looking good for the boy from the Nickel and the rest of his crew.

Don't think for a minute though that they feel like they have made it. They do not feel that way. I have heard that straight from Matty's mouth. They are not content on just getting a deal, getting noticed and falling to the wayside. They want to MAKE IT TO THE TOP. They know that takes more than just 'getting a deal'. They know that getting the deal is a part of the battle. It is keeping it and advancing further that is the goal for them now. It is show and prove time and they are ready for the challenge. “Sox in da Air” is starting to pick up in heavy rotation around the country. It is no longer just a regional hit. Shizz has also been in negotiations with other major producers such as Panjabi MC, who did the collaboration with Jay-Z “Beware”, which has RIAA Platinum sales. Shizz is also released an official remix for the “Sox in da Air” single with Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill and is being featured on a DJ Drama mixtape alongside other notable artist.

The Delaware rapper Shizz Nitty known for “Sox in da Air” is having a signing party with close friends and artists tomorrow night to celebrate his recent signing to a major. Shizz is on the OT Records Imprint, run by Matty Gate$, has signed a deal with a label under E1 (www.e1entertainment.com).

Shizz, Clark Bar, Chuck50, 5thWard, Mr.Dicer, Sap, and DJ Bran will all be attending and performing at the Caribbean Cafe in Wilmington, DE tomorrow night (March 4, 2010). “Man Down” feat. Clark Bar will also drop nationwide late spring.

Label executives and representatives will be having a media signing in Dover at the Delaware State University in the coming weeks to have an official media day for the OT Records Artist.
