Today *the News Journal ran a special article on the new mixtape (On Deckery 2) from OT Records. To even GET THEM TO RECOGNIZE a local hip hop act is big news here so the accomplishment should be taken with high regard. Shoutout to Dominick "D-Roc" Draper on the article. Good work fam...New artists and mixtapes are popping up every month in Delaware, which has helped the First State gain the ear of many music lovers across the nation.
The latest on the frontline in this movement is Wilmington-born Over Time Records, which features popular rappers like 5th Ward, Chuck 50, Sap, Clark Bar, & Keena, DJ Bran and CEO business man Matty Gate$.
But it's the leader of Over Time Records, rapper Shizz Nitty, who's taking First State hip-hop to the international level.
British-Indian hip-hop producer Punjabi MC has remixed Shizz Nitty's hit single "Sox In Da Air" with traditional Indian "desi" music and is pushing it all over the globe.
"I love his rap style and I thought the track was perfect for me to remix," Punjabi MC told AllHipHop.com. "I like to mix rap and Desi music, and I believe that this is the sound of the future, but it has to be done right."
Punjabi MC's remix will be featured on his solo
album "The Raj," which is expected to be released in September by Universal.
"I like to think of this version as a complete reproduction," he said. "We have had a great response from dance floors so far. So it seems a great concept for my new album due to be released later this year. I'm looking forward to more tracks and shows with this concept."
Punjabi MC is known for his work with Jay-Z and other hip-hop artists, and plans to do more with OT Records in the future.
And that should help to further raise the profile of OT Records, which recently inked a major distribution deal with E1 Entertainment. The local label just released its second compilation mixtape, "On Deckery 2, In Tega We Trust," which is an ode to the late Artega Green, a founding member OT Records who was murdered in October 2009.
The group uses its experiences in the streets of Wilmington to bring a reality factor that they say is missing in today's hip-hop music.
Everything you hear on this mixtape is heartfelt and real," says Clark Bar, who has seen his share of adversity after being shot 10 times, an incident which is chronicled in his song "True Story."

On Deckery 2 keeps the streets and the club content with a great mix of grit and bounce. Sap is one of the newest additions to OT Records as an artist, but he has already gained notoriety as one of the Tri-State area's leading producers. Sap himself is responsible for producing Meek Millz hit "In My Bag" and "Sox in Da Air."
Sap doesn't disappoint, producing five tracks on the mixtape, including his song "Freaky Girls Remix" featuring Shizz Nitty and hip-hop heavyweight Freeway. Sap's Cousin, Jahlil Beats, also appears on the mixtape producing the single "Shake Em Off." Jahlil and Sap have constructed their own sound and are taking their talents mainstream by working with some of the music industry's top artists, like Chris Brown, Tyga and Beanie Sigel.
Chuck 50 is another OT veteran whose rugged style is shown in the song "My Life," where he contemplates if his past wrong will come back to haunt him. Keena, the First Lady of OT Records, makes her hip-hop return and shows that she can spit with the best of them.
"Ain't no female rapper out here messing with Keena," boasts Matty Gate$. "There's only one other female rapper out here that's hot (Nicki Minaj), and Keena is number two."
