Very sad as CLEARLY she was wrong BUT CLEARLY she was just trying to provide for her child. I don't want to play arm chair lawyer on this one 'cause I don't know the 'end result' of her NOT PLEADING GUILTY. All I know is that the child is now without his mother (he is in his grandmother's care). I feel bad for all parties involved. Yes, I understand it is the law. I get that. I just wonder if this could have been handled another way.
And ya'll know how I AM ABOUT GIVING 'PASSES' FOR FOLKS AND THEIR BEHAVIOR. Could she have made some better choices in Life earlier? Probably. Now isn't the time for that though. (Maybe later)

Bullying....Its about TIME they actually started recognizing it...

You know I had this LONG DRAWN OUT POST I WAS GOING TO DO in regards to this but the title post sums up how I feel pretty much.
For the longest time, like most bad things in the World, we as a people were just flat out DISMISSIVE when it came to bullying.
A. It is kids being kids.....
B. It adds character.....
C. Life isn't fair so a kid might as well learn that early on....
These are just SOME OF THE BULLSHIT EXCUSES I have heard when it comes to that shit. Then something 'funny' happened. Only it wasn't so funny. The bullying escalated and so did the 'retaliation'. Mofos started getting shot once they reached the breaking point. Then they started pulling the trigger or taking out the noose so that they were no longer with us. Leaving the bullies dead (or seriously maimed) and no one to exact 'justice' on. Just like it was when we kept 'brushing the subject off'.
I wonder why that is? Do you think that for all the 'inferiorness' that the 'bullied' persons had they actually saw that they weren't going to get justice? That those who were bullied as children grew up to be in charge and actually sought change? Kids are 'weaker' now? Talk to me people! I mean I have my own theories (a mix of all three actually) but all I know is that someone FINALLY TOOK NOTICE to the fact that maybe it isn't so 'cool' to just let this 'rights of passage' just slide on through. ESPECIALLY since now we have a 'machine' (The Internet) that can DOCUMENT AND ARCHIVE all the bullying that is taking place thus repeating the humiliation OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.
Have I gone soft on ya'll? Hell no. I know life isn't 'fair'. I know life isn't 'Little League'. We all can't 'win'. It is set up that way for a reason. There is also no need to run around and CONDONING bad behavior either though. On some 'It is what it is...'. You won't be talking that shit when some NERD/GEEK/MISFIT what have you comes to your kids school (assuming you give a shit about your kid to begin with) and comes and shoots the whole place up. Leaving your kid paralyzed or dead. Shit won't be so 'trivial' then will it? You will be all up in arms and all of that 'hood' shit won't be able to BRING HIM/HER BACK. They will be gone. Like it or not champ, there are RULES TO LIFE. You have to follow them. Just like Life isn't 'fair', there are also rules you have to abide by.

If you are confused than you are not as smart as you want everyone to think then...It is this simple. Being given a pass to harass people as a child usually leads to you thinking that shit flies as an adult. It doesn't. It leads to things like 'HARASSMENT AT WORK'....Stalking your bf/gf....you know things that you can CATCH A CHARGE FOR? Is it starting to become clearer for you? Not enough? How about running around physically assaulting people as a child because they are 'different'? Let me see if you can guess what type of mindset that could lead you to as an adult if it is not nipped in the bud....Oh you can't make the correlation? Let me help you. Those that do that usually are the types that think it is okay to go around beating up people who are 'different'. You know 'gay bashings' and things like that. Did I do a study? No. I have LIVED NIGGA. I have SEEN IT. Folks who never got checked on their ways as a kid have ended up in more shit because no one told them any better. They were 'allowed' and in some instances ENCOURAGED to carry on this behavior. @ bullying people. Only after they got the proper 'treatment' did they realize the error of their ways. Too often by that time, someone was seriously hurt or damaged because of it though. Hell, even THAT DIDN'T HELP THOUGH and unfortunately some of them had to lose THEIR LIVES 'cause they fucked with the wrong person. So this isn't some 'clinical' study or some information I have read, I have SEEN it. With my own two eyes. People I know. People I grew up with or around. In my family. Not in my family. My friends. My enemies. It is CRYSTAL CLEAR. Like usual though, my community in particular wants to 'cover it up. Much like the underlying mental health issues that contribute to the behavior as well. So I don't need a 'PHD' or to have conducted some study. My life has been that way. Fortunately for me, I have always been physically able to quell such bullshit but that doesn't mean I didn't see it or haven't been tried. Unlike most of you though, just because it didn't happen to me like that I didn't choose to ignore it or look at it like it is/was no 'big deal'. It is. Which is why I am glad the schools are doing something.
Here is something that I find even MORE INTERESTING THOUGH about the dynamics of this. Especially when it pertains to my community. When these SAME TACTICS are used against 'us' (Yes mofo
So to me this is yet another example of 'us' trying to do some shit that we have no business doing ESPECIALLY when it has been done to us over a LONG PERIOD TIME as a minority. I can't say 'race' because basically if you aren't in 'power', you are gonna get 'bullied' and shitted on. So I REALLY don't understand how 'we' can cosign that behavior to the fullest. Preparing our youth for the onslaught of bullying via INFORMATION and such? Sure.. No problem! Thinking that the mindset that we carrying out is somehow 'helping' the VAST MAJORITY OF THEM? No. We see how that turns out. Half of them don't know when to apply it and they like the 'power' it gives them. Thus it does them no good. They either end up in jail or dead. So we can't really afford to blindly co-sign this agenda. At least not to me. It does 'us' no good.
Now if you are a 'non person of color' reading this, this may not make much sense to you at all. Hell, if you are a PERSON OF COLOR who subscribes to the theory of 'bullying is not such a bad thing', you might not either. But if you are a person of ANY COLOR with any OUNCE OF COMMON SENSE, you should be able to see the point I am trying to make here.
Bullying is wrong and there are MUCH BETTER THINGS TO SPEND YOUR TIME ON besides 'building the character' of someone you really don't care about. That is a shot at the BIGGEST EXCUSE people come up with when doing it. @ that ole 'I was helping them become a stronger person' bullshit....
So I am glad the schools (like my daughters) are FINALLY WAKING UP AND TRYING TO STOP IT. Can they 'stop it' totally? No. We can't 'stop' a lot of things. Imagine what THE WORLD would be like if we didn't even TRY TO DO IT THOUGH? (Yes, I know some of you who don't have shit would LOVE THAT....)

Delaware among the first to receive Race To the Top Grant
Along with the state of Tennessee, Delaware has been awarded the grant first. So it APPEARS help will be on the way as far as resources for schools and such. I SINCERELY HOPE that this money is used correctly! Read more at the bottom.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced today that Delaware and Tennessee have won grants in the first phase of the Race to the Top competition.
"We received many strong proposals from states all across America, but two applications stood out above all others: Delaware and Tennessee," Duncan said in announcing the winners. "Both states have statewide buy-in for comprehensive plans to reform their schools. They have written new laws to support their policies. And they have demonstrated the courage, capacity, and commitment to turn their ideas into practices that can improve outcomes for students."
Delaware will receive approximately $100 million and Tennessee $500 million to implement their comprehensive school reform plans over the next four years. As with any federal grant program, budgets will be finalized after discussions between the grantees and the Department, and the money will be distributed over time as the grantees meet established benchmarks.
The U.S. Department of Education will have about $3.4 billion available for the second phase of the Race to the Top competition.
"We set a very high bar for the first phase," Duncan said. "With $3.4 billion still available, we're providing plenty of opportunity for all other states to develop plans and aggressively pursue reform."
The $4.35 billion Race to the Top Fund is an unprecedented federal investment in reform. The program includes $4 billion for statewide reform grants and $350 million to support states working together to improve the quality of their assessments. The Race to the Top state competition is designed to reward states that are leading the way in comprehensive, coherent, statewide education reform across four key areas:
* Adopting standards and assessments that prepare students to succeed in college and the workplace;
* Building data systems that measure student growth and success, and inform teachers and principals how to improve instruction;
* Recruiting, developing, rewarding, and retaining effective teachers and principals, especially where they are needed most; and
* Turning around their lowest-performing schools.
Forty states and the District of Columbia submitted applications for the first phase of grants. Delaware and Tennessee were selected from among 16 finalists who presented their proposals to panels of peer reviewers earlier this month.
The peer reviewers awarded the highest scores to Delaware and Tennessee. They awarded Delaware and Tennessee high marks for the commitment to reform from key stakeholders, including elected officials, teacher's union leaders, and business leaders. Dear Christiana School District (and other districts),
First off, I applaud you for even MOVING in the direction of using technology to help us educate our children. This was huge and it took you awhile but you did eventually embrace the concept. Now, I ask you to simply not RELY on the technology. You see, now when I speak to a teacher, I get the 'Go to the Home Access Center' auto response. It almost feels like I am calling Comcast, Connectiv (Duke Power) or the bank when I try to get answers. I need some HUMAN FEEDBACK. I need to know when she 'looks like she is slipping'. Not when she has ALREADY FALLEN AND GOTTEN DIRTY. @ my daughter. Do you understand the analogy? Not only that, the majority of your staff (in particular the veteran parts of it) are not proficient when it comes to computers and do not update it nor the 'homework' hot line in a timely fashion. Which I actually can UNDERSTAND being the product of two teachers. By the time they get home, they have long passed the school hours and now must plan for the NEXT day/grade papers/AND HAVE A LIFE. So I do UNDERSTAND THAT. Which is all the more reason that I am IMPLORING you not to forget the 'ways that worked initially' for some. The parent/teacher face to face interaction. Yes, I am aware of the 'portfolio' sessions you have. The parent/teacher days you set aside but lets be realistic, THE DAMAGE IS DONE at that time and we will only be talking about 'future' improvements in most cases. If a parent wants five minutes of your time (like I did the other day), allow them that luxury. No parent is coming all the way up to the school if they don't want a 'resolution' so it should be worthwhile. Stop dismissively waving people towards that website. You can recommend it but that is not what I get when I come up there to ask questions. I get the 'Did you check the site?" line. Evidently, I checked SOMETHING because I am here now! @ my response.
See, the thing about the site is that while it tells me the assignments name and possibly when it is due, that is all I get. I don't get information such as when the paper was graded, a notification that she did or didn't turn it in and such. Which a VERY SIMPLE phone call or email would handle. Particularly in cases when I have said assignment GRADED BY THE TEACHER in my or my child's possession. Also, classwork is obviously part of the grade and since I AM NOT IN CLASS WITH THE CHILD, I don't know all the names of the assignments. So now I am back to asking the 11 year old "What does this mean?" Which she SHOULD know but sometimes doesn't always know. If we could rely on her though initially to tell the truth/bring forth all work and relay school messages, we would be doing that now wouldn't we? Okay then. As it stands now I get interim reports that say she has 'missed assignments' when that is not the case all of the time. From multiple teachers. If I am citing this then you must know this has happened. More than once even. Again, with apathy to the human nature of the situation, I am not upset overly about this happening as it is my job to stay on top of it as well in some capacity. @ the initial error. My issue is with 'How I am deemed to handle it via this system that relies on humans to input the information..' It is treated like there is no way it can fail. Not true. I just showed you how it could.
Stop telling your teachers that this is the end all be all of how to stay on top of your kid. It is not. It is a LOVELY tool. But it will not and cannot replace parent/teacher contact via email/phone call or face to face interaction.

If you don't know these two names, don't worry you will. Both of these young men will BE IN THE SPOTLIGHT SOON ENOUGH. One is the 'future of baseball' while the other is said to be pretty much a lock to go to the League in basketball. Both are leaving school for preparation in their respective sports to go Pro before their senior years in high school.
Bryce will be attending JUCO after getting his GED to be eligible to do so. He is basically been THE PROSPECT in Major League Baseball in America for quite some time. If the boy is that good, I say it is a smart investment. He is scheduled to be the 1st round pick in that draft. I have friends who got drafted and they were PRETTY good and made out fine. Education and signing bonus given to them. Here's a hint, one of them plays for the Camden River Sharks now and and attended the Unv. of Miami. None of the people I know were the number overall pick either. I think the boy will be fine as long as he either pans out or is smart with his dough. It isn't like he ISN'T GOING TO SCHOOL EITHER. Lets not forget that.
Jeremy is taking it a step further. He is actually going to GO PRO now and hopes to play in Europe a la Brandon Jennings. This may seem odd to us Americans but QUITE HONESTLY, that is how all of those Euro cats you see balling here in the NBA do it. They have been playing professionally since age 14 for the most part. So it is NOTHING NEW to them. Of course, we are all going to be in an uproar. He is spoiled. He is this. He is that. Look, like people have always said before, if that is what you are destined to do, it will work out. If not, you will adjust. For every six or so Korelone Youngs and his like that had to do something else, we got a Kobe Bryant or a Kevin Garnett or hopefully a Brandon Jennings. The young man plans to go to college while there as well as get his GED prior to going too.
I want you guys, especially those of you who have REALLY regular jobs (no knock either) to do the math with me. @ those who think this is stupid.
