Oakland...Oscar Grant....Manslaughter for the officer? Johannes Mehserle's 'situation'
I know that there are MANY MANY PEOPLE who were tuned in the verdict in Oakland. I know because many of the people I know were watching and all throughout the night when another event (That I covered already) was going on, people were taking shots at others about not talking about it. I understand the 'intent' but that is really no way to get people to 'truly' care about these situations. Dissing people for not 'caring' about what you do WHEN YOU WANT THEM TO DO IT. Does it get attention? Sure. It also makes it get dismissed quicker.
Now back to the verdict. It appears that the manslaughter charge is not enough for people. Even with the reality that he will have to do 5-14 years is not enough. Never seen the footage? Here you go.
I think the actual 'charge' sounds lenient. However, if you look at the sentencing guidelines I just outlined, this would be considered a 'travesty' if one of the many people that we celebrate in the 'hood' as a person with bodies on their street rep. I know you guys don't want to hear that now 'cause we are on our 'No justice. No peace' thing though. It is true though. There would be all types of 'Free Mookie' t-shirts. All types of songs made and thinly veiled (or not so thinly veiled) 'statements' of how things are going to be when he 'comes' home. This ,TO ME, is what outrages me. We don't get this upset when we shoot each other so why should people stop their lives to get upset about this? See what I did there? Not fair is it? Neither is 'taking people to task for talking about Lebron'. Even it is 'true'. 'Cause it is TRUE. While YOU may not celebrate the 'shooter' in the hood, there are PLENTY WHO DO. So it is kinda hard for people to get up in arms about it when they have people dying at the hands of their neighbors. That is the REALITY of the situation for the 'uninformed' people that you keep alluding to.
So are you saying that 'Justice was served...' Mr. Blogger? I KNOW THAT IS NOT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING?
It depends. Nothing is going to undo what happened to Oscar Grant. So anything short of the officer dying is going to viewed as a failure to me for most people. So off the top, that is an impossible thing to do . @ Justice being served. You execute the officer and I am not sure WHAT THAT WOULD do either way. Help or hinder. If he got off like most officers tend to do (Sean Bell), THAT TO ME, would be a failure. He didn't. He is now going to be a felon. Can't be a cop and be a felon now can you? (If you can, enlighten me. I don't think you can.) He probably won't get touched in jail but he has to come home sometime. Then what? He will have to leave in fear more than likely and surely won't be living in Oakland. There are all types of justices being served. There is more than one way to have justice people. We can't always get what we want. Besides, like I alluded to up top, I DON'T HEAR MANY OF YOU SCREAMING FOR THESE JUSTICES when it us on us. All I hear are 'excuses' and reasons why they got to the point they did....Interesting.
Rest in peace Oscar Grant. I hope that you did not die in vain. Truly. I hope that somewhere, an officer is getting trained properly how to deal with a hostile situation. I also hope that people understand this is a process. Just like it was a process to 'screw us over', it will be one that will take time to undo. Violent protests won't get it done ya'll. Looting Foot Locker won't make the police act right or bring Oscar Grant back. I know for some of you, you know no other way to express yourself. You are going to have to find one though if you want things to change. Sincerely.

Doesn't matter what YOU think the definition of assault is, this IS THE DEFINITION.
Assault- An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm. It is both a crime and a tort and, therefore, may result in either criminal or civil liability. Generally, the common law definition is the same in criminal and Tort Law. There is, however, an additional Criminal Law category of assault consisting of an attempted but unsuccessful Battery.
Touching the cop=assault. Any way you look at it. You can 'niggarize it'/rationalize/brush off her actions all you want but once she put her hands on him, ALL BETS WERE OFF. May not have been my course of action but I am not overly upset he did it. Did it look brutal? Hell yeah. Is what she did stupid? HELL YEAH. Sounds about even to me. Video shows he pushed her off and she came back again. Both of them assaulted him actually. Lucky that they didn't get shot or maced. For real. Even the cats I know who HAVE ATTACKED POLICE would tell you that 'expecting them not to fight back' would be pretty stupid. This isn't the movies man. They have a 'gang mentality' remember? They like being brutal. Why would you feed into that by escalating things to that level?
It is one thing to play 'I think the cop is wrong so I am going to take physical action'. You want to do that? Fine. You can't bitch up when the cop hits you back though. Man or woman. If you are a woman and you feel you shouldn't be hit then perhaps you shouldn't touch a cop while he is arresting your friend. Seems simple enough. These excuses and 'tired ass cliches' ya'll keep hiding behind are the reasons some people are running around RIGHT NOW, terrorizing your neighborhoods and doing as they please. No one should get their ass kicked by ANYONE unprovoked but if you put yourself in harms way, you get what you ask for. They initially weren't even going to get arrested. The part about the getting arrested didn't take place until the verbal assaults and the physical assaults.
Would I have done it? No. I would have probably maced her ass. Am I outraged he did it? No. She obviously didn't learn not to do such things. She knows now though. Or at least she knows what might happen. Ya'll keep on playing Super Ni##a out here though. @ doing dumb shit and pumping people up to do things like this EVEN WHEN THEY ARE WRONG. Tell you what 'Super Ni##a', the next time you get 'detained' by the police, you do ALL the things she did in that video and let me know how it works out for you.

But police brutality is a joke?
Not all cops are bad. Not all cops are good. Now I guess this is the time where we would want the officers to get acquitted seeing as though Rodney King's perps got off, right?
Yeah, if we are taking on the mentality of a twelve year old and were vengeful. Now of course AFTER THIS HAPPENS and the next black man gets beat on tv while on tape, IF THE SAME RESULTS this white young male is probably going to get (they are going to get charged and convicted I predict) THEN we can proceed down that road. See how it works people? Yes, it sometimes takes one of them to get in the predicament before justice gets it right as sometimes those in power truly never been threatened. We can keep up that eye for an eye shit, keep getting ours gauged out while others get poked or we can demand it stop ALTOGETHER. I am for the latter personally.
The video is pretty clear. He didn't do anything. They said he walked up to them and hit the horse and an officer. Now if you think he did that, walked away AND THEN THE VIDEO came on and they handed him his ass, you are AN ASS. Period. You saw the way they hopped on his ass. Me thinks they didn't need much of a reason to get to busting heads.
Now we don't know 'What he said...' to the officers but any FOOL could see he was out like a light after about the third or fourth blow. Yet they continued.
No. This is not the first time the police have done this. Yes, THEY HAVE BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF MANY A BLACK MAN. This is STILL WRONG. This kid actually backed up and started to flee. This was some 'gang shit' for that ass. For real. I see you PG County's finest.
Now for any person who has 'never been in this situation' or faced with it, do you NOW UNDERSTAND WHY SOME FEEL LIKE THEY DO ABOUT THE COPS? They aren't making this shit up. It happens. A LOT!
Oh by the way, his grandfather is a former judge in Maryland...

BETHESDA, Md. - Former Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge and the grandfather of the 21-year-old University of Maryland student who was captured on video being taken down and hit unconscious by police in riot gear is speaking out.
Jim McKenna believes the officers involved should be prosecuted. He said his grandson, Jack, has at least eight staples in his head, a wrist injury and possibly long-term psychological damage.
Jim McKenna believes the video leaves little to the imagination.
"If the three of us, you and I and the cameraman, were to go out with batons and march out onto the street and bludgeon the first person we run into, which is essentially what they did, you can rest assure we would be tried, convicted and sent to jail," McKenna.
