Let me be clear I knew it was high. I promise I did. I can also see why folks would be shying away from it. I mean, I'm not mad at Mike either. GET YOUR MONEY FAM. It's business. I also know that the Steelers probably won't pay him that much. At least I don't think so. I could be wrong and I know there are TONS OF YOU WHO HOPE I AM WRONG.
Again...I understand it. He should have been drafted higher and this is his way of making up that 'stagger'. No problem. He can command it. Or can he? @ the teams that passed on this alleged price tag. I wonder how 'off' this number is as well? 'Cause it can't be THAT FAR OFF. I know he wants over a 100 millie for the duration of his contract so my question is just how far off is this number...Anyway..read the article. Here is a piece..
How much? A league source said that Wallace, 25, wants a contract that surpasses the eight-year, $120 million deal that Larry Fitzgerald signed last year with the Cardinals. Combine that with the first-round pick any team that signs Wallace to an offer sheet would lose if the Steelers didn't match the offer, and you start to understand why we've heard so little about Wallace in the last week and a half.
That, of course, could change. Teams have another month to sign restricted free agents. But at that price, the 49ers aren't interested, and it's hard to imagine the Patriots, Bengals and Ravens paying that either.
Wallace ranked 11th in receiving yards last season with 1,193 yards, and he scored eight touchdowns. Fitzgerald ranked fourth with 1,411 yards and eight touchdowns. The Steelers placed a first-round tender worth $2.74 million on Wallace. If Wallace signs it, he'll become an unrestricted free agent next season and all 32 teams will be able to bid on him without the fear of losing a draft pick.

Breaking Through The Myth of a 'No. 1 Receiver' - Behind the Steel Curtain
I tried to explain this to someone the other day but didn't have the time. This is a perfect breakdown. I'll give you a piece of it then you can head on over and see the rest at the link.
No team's depth chart says "No. 1 receiver" over a player's name. It's a legitimate concept, but it's just that, a concept.
The Steelers official web site has their depth chart, and it designates the receiver positions as "WR1" and "WR2," which is a way to avoid using the old-school and not-well recognized positions of "flanker" and "split end." In reference to the Steelers, the WR1 position is the flanker, and the WR2 position is the split end.
This depth chart reflects the offensive personnel out of their base offense - one split end, one flanker, two tight ends and one running back, along with five linemen and a quarterback.
A split end typically lines up on the line and is the widest player of the formation. A flanker plays in the slot, or about four yards from the last player on the line.
Split ends and flankers do not play on the same side of the field. They don't usually run the same kinds of routes, either. To suggest one could just flip to the other is as silly as saying the left guard could just play the right guard because either way, he's lining up next to the center.
A split end runs deep routes, short slants and things associated with that. Typically, they are long, deep speed guys, the playmakers. Mike Wallace is the Steelers starting split end. He replaced Santonio Holmes last season. Plaxico Burress and Nate Washington also played this position in the past.
A flanker, or a slot receiver, is versatile. They have good hands, make tough catches across the middle, and make defenders miss tackles. Hines Ward has been the Steelers flanker for a long time, and I'm not even sure the offense was similar in the pre-Ward days. There's a reason these designations stayed in place between Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin.
Obviously, all receivers need to have all of the aforementioned characteristics, and this is where it's important to know why there isn't a defined No. 1 receiver.
One reason is split ends and flankers are not in the game solely to catch passes.

I like how Mike and Ben have been on the same page MOST OF THE TIME this season. On long throws as well as short and intermediate routes.
Speaking of my Steelers, Santonio Holmes will likely be suspended for 4 games.....
Substance abuse violation. As with most cases where 'regular ninjas' think that the authorities don't speak 'code words', that 'wake and bake' thing sounds like it might have got him some attention. There has been no OFFICIAL WORD as to whether he failed a test but the simple ass tweet SURELY could not have helped.
It is okay though. Can you say Mike Wallace? Oh and don't forget, we will STILL probably draft a receiver anyway in addition to some of the other vets we have in camp. (Randle El).

Receiver Santonio Holmes is facing a four-game suspension under the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. Whether he tested positive for a prohibited substance or missed a required test is unknown at this time. But he has committed a violation of the NFL policy.
Under the NFL substance-abuse policy, a four-game suspension is instituted after a player commits multiple violations. The fact that Holmes is facing a four-game suspension means that he has previously committed violations.
Holmes has had a history with marijuana as he was cited for marijuana possession in 2008. The Steelers suspended him for one game with pay for that offense. However, Holmes posted a Twitter a message recently stating that he was going to "wake n bake," which is slang for getting high on marijuana after getting out of bed.
Holmes was also recently been accused of throwing a drink in the face of a woman at an Orlando nightclub after she would not give up her spot on a couch. The alleged victim has sued Holmes and pursued criminal liability. The suspension Holmes faces was not due to this incident, although it could cause a separate suspension as well.
