Limas Sweed speaks..

I think he knows it is now or never...As we have not officially cut him yet.

Now with an opening at the wide out spot, one has to wonder if Limas Sweed is finally going to step up and earn his keep on the Steelers roster. Last season was a disaster for the former second-round pick, as a drop in week three in Cincy set off a terrible season that ended with him being placed on reserve/non injured list.

Today though, the wide out was back on the field for the first time, as he finally practiced with the team for the first time since being put on the reserve list last season. He spoke through a statement about being excited to be back with the ball club.

“I am excited to be back on the field and back in the locker room with my teammates,” Sweed said in a statement issued through the ballclub before practice today. “I appreciate all the support I received from the Steelers organization while I dealt with some personal issues at the end of the 2009 season. I have been working diligently and I am focused on the remainder of the offseason in getting myself prepared to have a great 2010 season.”

He will likely have to push himself to even earn a roster spot, and if he does, he has to prove he can hold onto the ball and make plays. Here’s betting it’s his last chance with this team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for reinforcements at wide receiver.

So, they're bringing in San Francisco 49ers free agent wide receiver Arnaz Battle for a visit Monday.

Battle, 30, has caught 178 passes for 2,150 yards and 11 touchdowns in seven NFL seasons. Battle might also meet with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Steelers' coaching staff spent the weekend on a retreat at a mountain resort in the Pittsburgh area, sitting out the first few days of free agency.

Another reason they need depth at wide receiver is because Limas Sweed has been dealing with undisclosed personal problems.

According to the National Football Post, Limas Sweed "doesn't have a future with the Steelers."
It's notable that the team is conducting business as if Sweed isn't even on the roster. With Santonio Holmes, Hines Ward, and Mike Wallace locked in as receivers Nos. 1-3, the Steelers pursued Arnaz Battle as a potential No. 4 and special teams help. Sweed may not even make the roster out of training camp.

You got me. I watched you sky over defenders at Texas thinking, "Yeah this young man might be something." One handed catches in the back of the end zone and shit. Circus grabs. Good speed. Seem to always be open. Maybe not a sure fire thing for a professional player but a pretty decent prospect. Then we drafted you. I am thinking, 'Yup, there's the replacement for Plax. He has size, will go up to meet the ball AND COME DOWN WITH IT, and he is physical..." Well you are STILL PHYSICAL. I will give you that. But where did all of this go??
